Well I think this is good advice to an extent. You don't want to alienate everyone by acting this way because you won't make any money that way either. There is a honor in saying what you believe and that is great but there is also a fine line to be walked here as well. And don't treat people differently because they have money and you think they could give you some.

This is so true the sooner you realize that you can not please everybody all the time then you are going to be better off. This article hits home with me in a big way because I am a people pleaser and I have had to learn over the past two years that I don't need to be that way. Thank you for this Suzanne I appreciate it.

I want to be liked by everyone, I don't want to be rich so to speak so I don't have to act like a bitch right. I have a friend that is this way and I have to tell you it is embarrassing to go to a restaurant with her because of this. She treats the people like crap and if things aren't to her satisfaction she lets them know about it.

I loved your article that was great. So many people put on a show so that they are liked and then they get frustrated with it and start talking behind those same peoples backs. So why did you want them to like you in the first place? I am learning to be more like you and to speak my mind whether you like it or not and I have found it to be very refreshing.

So much value to be taken from that post. The market-sphere is becoming increasingly noisy. There is very few brand new things to do. What is going to set your business apart from so many others is YOU. That is the one and only thing you can do that will make you memorable and valuable to your audience. Rock on.

One of the things I love about Zappos is the whole idea of delivering happiness - to employees, to strangers and to customers. One of the things that is striking about Zappos is their company values. They were not an edict from management, but rather every employee of Zappos was invited to participate. Among their core values are: Deliver WOW Through Service; Embrace and Drive Change; And the all important one, Create Fun and a Little Weirdness.

I have seen this same cycle or pattern of behavior several times while I was working for a start up company which was not very well managed. In fact, you usually see this sort of behavior whenever you have a manager who is not really doing a good job of managing the team members. It is in a scenario like this when people start to become defensive and uncooperative when challenges arise during the project.

I think you need thick skin to be able to get through the push and pull of business. When you are running a business, you will inevitably go through peaks and valleys, small victories and failures. And if you have too thin a skin, you are going to be riding a roller coaster of a ride as you grow your business. That can take it's toll on you and zap your energy and your productivity.

Zappos is a darling of the marketing industry for its progressive approach to brand building. Its willingness to go its own way in matters like offering new employees $2,000 to quit and a laser focus on customer service are talking points for those preaching progressive brand building. That willingness to be unique also carries over to mobile. Visitors to the Zappos site from a mobile device won't just get a replication of the desktop experience.

My view is that there isn't one universal truth (other than love).

The truth for each of us is based on our values, circumstances and perceptions. In that sense, I think there are as many truths out there as there are people in the world.

For some, their truth might be that they are willing to make less money to spend more time with their friends and family. This is possibly what some mean when they speak of not wanting to put so many hours into their business and wanting more balance.
