Does Your Business Have Values?
I first realized the importance of a value-based company when I visited Zappos recently and was inspired by a business that operates daily off of a specific set of values to serve the company and the customers. It really got me thinking about my own values for Team Suzanne and how living those values daily serves my clients, my subscribers, and my life.
We often get so busy marketing, strategizing, and serving that we don’t take the time to identify our core values for the business. I think this is one of the most important visions I have created for myself lately and when you can stay on track with your business values, you naturally help more people and make more money. It is really key to have them in writing so that you can be reminded of your purpose. We all get busy, overwhelmed, and frustrated. When your mission gets marginalized by life, you can revisit these and get back on track.
Here are the values of Team Suzanne! I am proud to say that I strive to work and live by these daily as does my office and support team:
- Always more. Provide all that we can to change people’s lives and businesses. More support, more help, more love, more gratitude, and more accountability. Keep providing MORE.
- Gratitude. Take time in every transaction and with every client to be thankful.
- Equality. Treat every client, customer, and subscriber with the same high level of support, service, and love no matter what package or program they participate in.
- Own it. We are 100% responsible for all that happens at Team Suzanne. The good, the bad, wins, losses, mistakes, and opportunities. Own all of it.
- Model. Be a model for those we serve by never giving up, always learning, and supporting people unconditionally.
- Think Big. Playing small does not serve anyone. We can only help more people if we are raising our standards, our vision, and our own bar for success.
- Play. What’s the point of anything if not fully, deeply, and richly enjoyed. Play more!
- Be fearless. Even in the face of uncertainty and possible failure we do it anyway. Embracing fear is the key success component.
- Ask. Always ask what our clients and customers want. Be on a continual quest to over serve.
- Honesty. Tell the truth even when it loses us money, time, or resources. Be an open company that values integrity.
A defined and specific set of values can be one of the best ways you serve your clients, market your services, and change the world!

Viola Apr 25, 2012 at 04:20I once saw a new report on the Zappos company and I too was impressed by the unconventional approach that company takes and the extent to which they go to make sure their employees are stress free, happy to be working there and appreciated. That company is clearly led by visionaries who understand the importance of keeping your employees content, but also in positions where their abilities are challenged and then rewarded, compensated and praised.

Lora Apr 26, 2012 at 08:57I am quite impressed by how insightful and well written this article is. You can tell just from the introspection that the business person who inspired this article is a visionary who tends to think outside the box. Anyone who can see the value in the unconventional and innovative approach of the Zappos company is probably a like minded individual and should have no problem finding a niche of their own in their particular industry.

Raymond Apr 26, 2012 at 11:54I noticed that this web blog has some other really good articles. They are very well written and they certainly do not make you yawn. I recommend those who like this subject matter also check out some of the other articles using the links at the bottom left of this page. I would point out one thing: you may want to refrain from the use of the word hobbyist’ since it refers to johns’ who pay for escorts.

Douglas Apr 26, 2012 at 01:04Who is this writer, whose face is displayed in the thumbnail on the right, and who preaches this new religion of movement marketing’. I do know one thing: she has clearly distinguished herself from the hoards of marketing experts that liter the memory banks of countless cloud servers on the world wide web (is that term even used anymore?). She speaks with a certain flair for symbolism, like an ancient prophet would speak or write.

Clarence Apr 26, 2012 at 01:37I like the way you think, your values are awesome and I think that every business should take these into account and start using them. Especially the “Own It part, so many people try to push things off onto other people as being their fault when that just simply is not the case. I hope that a lot of business people will see this and practice it. Great job.

Anthony May 04, 2012 at 11:01The values that caught my attention in this article are facing your fears and remaining honest – even if that honesty may prove detrimental to your income. I think it is more important to shine as a person who lives with integrity. That may gain you a loyal ally or client that will in the long run, provide you with added income And if we do not run away from our fears, we face and overcome them.

Adam May 05, 2012 at 11:56Such inspirational words. While I was reading this article, I couldn’t help but imagine the voice of a savvy business woman and seminar speaker donning a headset with microphone and speaking to a large crowd of entrepreneurs, all of whom are riveted by each sentence and eager to applaud the end of each inspirational statement. That is how the tone of this article sounded. It actually reminded me of a notable speaker. Her name is Johanna Blakley.

Felix May 06, 2012 at 09:09The success of online shoe retailer Zappos has been well-documented in publications and on television business news shows: It went from a struggling start-up in 2000 to getting acquired by Amazon in a deal valued at $1.2 billion in 2009. The face of the company remains its chief executive Tony Hsieh, whose an avid Twitterer and successful entrepreneur even before leading the shoe company. I think he shares the secrets to his success in a new book.

Josephine May 07, 2012 at 07:17Even the celebrated elite companies are no different than the rest of us common entrepreneurs. Did you hear? The Popular online shoe retailer Zappos.com said late Sunday that hackers had accessed its network, stealing customer account information from as many as 24 million customers. Credit card information was not stolen, according to a statement sent to users, but email addresses, billing and shipping addresses, phone numbers, the last four digits from credit cards may have been compromised.

Mary May 08, 2012 at 01:26This was a great article, if your business doesn’t have values than you are doomed to fail from the beginning. A company that is started on values and operates on those values will be successful for many years to come you have put together a great article and it is to bad that we don’t see more companies with values these days.

Ranee May 08, 2012 at 01:26It seem there is security breach in the news every week. 2 or 3 weeks ago, there was a report that Master Card was hacked and now, in we hear that hackers broke into a Zappos server in Kentucky Sunday night, giving them access to personal records of 24 million Zappos customers — which means if you’ve ever used the site, you’re probably a victim too. I hope the shoes were worth the worry & risk.

Michael May 12, 2012 at 10:21Zappos is a darling of the marketing industry for its progressive approach to brand building. Its willingness to go its own way in matters like offering new employees $2,000 to quit and a laser focus on customer service are talking points for those preaching progressive brand building. That willingness to be unique also carries over to mobile. Visitors to the Zappos site from a mobile device won’t just get a replication of the desktop experience.

Larry May 12, 2012 at 09:34One of the things I love about Zappos is the whole idea of delivering happiness – to employees, to strangers and to customers. One of the things that is striking about Zappos is their company values. They were not an edict from management, but rather every employee of Zappos was invited to participate. Among their core values are: Deliver WOW Through Service; Embrace and Drive Change; And the all important one, Create Fun and a Little Weirdness.
