Are You Ready to Make a Difference

Published by Suzanne Evans   |   May 25, 2010   |   No Comments

A series of global and economic changes puts us in a new age of entrepreneurship – thank goodness. New ways of doing business are emerging and some sales/business has dried up and some has truly flourished. There is a difference. I want you to know what is working and how you can build, and build while others are scrambling to figure out what went wrong.

There are three very key ways to make a difference and make money right now. Do all three and you WILL make millions while making a difference.

1) Listen. Many business owners keep selling (or pushing) their products/services and they are not awakened to the fact that people have changed, especially in the last year, and want different things. There is a different need and desire to make lasting change and if you just sell and do not listen you are not aiming to make a difference. Ask your clients what they want most and also pay close attention to what is not said. You cannot make money selling what you think people need – listen to what they want and be ready to change, adapt, or grow.

2) Get Live! The technology gauntlet has swung. There are so many x-boxes, ipad touches, tweets, and texts that people are starving for human contact. How can you connect with people one-on-one? There is no better way to make that deep connection and find out how you can help people. Plan a time to take people to lunch, host drinks at an event you are attending, do a one day event, find a local expo – and networking, networking, networking always works when you work it. Live and in person IS THE NEW social networking trend. ;-)

3) Pick up the phone! The best (please hear me out on this one) BEST way to close sales and get clients right now is picking up the phone and speaking to people. You must make a connection and ASK for the sale. Take 100% responsibility for your offerings and for helping people. If you are looking to fill a program or get clients put on a kitchen timer for 15 minutes, brainstorm a list of 25 people, then pick up the phone, show them how you can help, and ASK for the sale. Don’t hide behind your computer ~ connect and ask!

To truly make a difference and make millions use the NEW way to love clients up and be of service – go back to basics… people want YOU. Connect now.

Find a Business Coach: 3 Steps to Choosing the Right One for You

People ask me all the time, “How do I know if you’re the right coach for me, and if you’re not, how would I go about finding someone?” I have no difficulty answering this question honestly because I feel very strongly that there truly is no competition.

There are three important pieces when finding the right business coach, teacher, or mentor for you:

1.)  You have to be in alignment with the person’s message. Does the way they market, the way they present themselves, and the way they speak feel right for you and feel right to you?

2.)  Make sure they seem like they have a systematic approach. For instance, I have the Help More People system. They should have some kind of step-by-step process or series of criteria used to help their clients get from where they are to where they want to go.

3.)  The third piece is – and this is the piece that makes some people a little squeamish, but I just want to be honest about it – you need to make sure that the person has made a significant amount of money beyond what your money goal is.

If your goal this year is to make six figures, you want to make sure that person has proven themselves to make at least $400,000, for example.

The numbers may be different in your situation, but my point is that there are a lot of wonderful people out there who have the best of intentions, who are calling themselves marketing and business coaches, but frankly they haven’t even filled their own practices.

So again, here are the three important elements to look for when choosing a business coach:

-  Be sure that they’re in alignment with your heart and with your message.

-  They should have a systematic approach to marketing and business.

-  That they monetarily have gone past where you want to be.

If you’re wondering how to get this information before hiring someone… ask them! It sounds a little bit scary but it’s true.

You should also keep these three elements in mind when you’re considering whose advice to follow, even if you’re not working with them directly.

I always choose about three people to follow at any given time, and I let everything else go into a filter that when I have a chance or I have time then I will then catch up on it.

So instead of being subscribed to 20-30 different ezines (which can make your life very difficult), only subscribe to people who fit the three criteria I outline and unsubscribe or filter out everything else.

If you are a business or marketing coach, remember to evaluate your own approach from the perspective of your clients through these criteria as well. The people who need you most (your clients) should be able to see that you are a good fit for them based on these same three important pieces as well.

Get Coaching Clients: A Simple Strategy to Fill Your Next Program or Event

Published by Suzanne Evans   |   May 6, 2010   |   No Comments

In many of my programs I have talked about “the cycle of quitting”. It is a pattern that many people fall into in business, in relationships, in all facets of life. There are very specific points in which people go into blame, they go into regret, and they start making excuses.

One of the things that happened to me when I decided to do my Help More People tour, which was a series of low-cost live events all over the country, was that people told me not to do it.

They said things like, “You know, with the economy the way it is, people just aren’t going to live events right now.” A lot of my colleagues, friends – some very smart marketers and business owners – were saying things like that. Some of my coaches told me not to do the tour. They said that it would be very hard to get people in the door.

This is an example of well intending people getting in the way of what knew would be the right next step for my business. I just knew I was not going to get into the cycle on quitting. I knew that connecting with people in person is the most powerful way to build and grow a business, to get my message heard, and to help more people.

I knew that I had a movement, and I knew what I had to share was important, so I simply told myself, “I’ve got to make this work”. Quitting was not an option, and I knew the tour was the best way forward. A technique that I used through this time is called “The Bubble Technique”. It’s something a colleague of mine showed me, and I’d like to pass it on to you now.

It’s very simple. First, you start with a big post-it note, and whatever event, coaching program, consulting program, training program, or any other program you’re trying to fill or similar type of goal you’re trying to reach. It doesn’t matter if you want to get five one-on-one clients or 20 people in a particular program. Maybe you just want to get 100 more people on your newsletter list. This is useful wherever you are.

Wherever you are and whatever that next step is for you, you start with the big post-it note and you draw circles with numbers in them – 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and so on.

Next, whenever you get someone to sign up for your program – so for me, when I got someone to sign up to come to the tour –  cross one of the bubbles with the respective number off. For the first person, I’d cross off “bubble #1”, and then I would cross off “bubble #2”, and so on.

It gave me a beautiful visual representation of my goal coming into fruition and how far along I was and it really brought me a higher level of energy on a daily basis. In doing this, I was more inclined to take inventory each day. “What are my numbers? Where have I gone?” I would ask myself, “Where do I still have left to go?”

This is not an exaggeration: I credit the “Bubble Technique” with allowing me to exceed my goal of 150 people in attendance of my tour, to actually having over 260 people show up!

This technique – and my commitment to it – made it so that I was not allowed to quit.

The most important part of all was that it wasn’t just a technique, but there was real emotional energy behind it. Here’s why: once that chart was on the wall and I had a few people signed up for my event, the numbers weren’t the important part any more. Behind each number was a human being. Eventually, when I had 20, then 30, and more and more, I told myself, “Wow, that’s not just #1 or #15 (or whatever number it happened to be), that’s John, that’s Sarah, that’s Adela, that’s Sally, that’s Pamela, that’s Billy.”

It is at that point when I realized the awesome responsibility I had, a moral obligation, to continue to share my message because those people were depending on me. It’s the same for you and your movement. When you help those people that need you most, it is going to create a beautiful ripple effect. That is what this technique, and the important lesson behind it of resisting the urge to quit pursuing your movement, is all about.

Clarity is the Secret to Speedy Success!

Published by Suzanne Evans   |   May 5, 2010   |   No Comments

What are you asking for?  When you go to a drive-thru (for me Starbucks – thank you! ) do you say give me what you want me to have or I’ll take maybe a this or maybe a that.  Nope!  And if you did, who the heck knows what you would get later?  You think it through, decide, ask, and it is given.

Same with your business and success!

This week I had a client that was frustrated.  She is such a lovely human being.  You meet her, you melt, and you want more.  I could feel she was distant and – long story short – as we spoke and as her concerns were voiced, magic happened.

She needed more foundations, she wanted some opportunities, and had some specific concerns.  Once she was clear and asked for those things – BOOM!  I began to rattle off everything we were going to give her, programs I was going to send her, and some specific paths to exposure.

I have to admit, I could tell she was a little surprised and then actually delighted!  Ask and it is given!  Every time…

But that giving has to start first from clarity.  She had to know she needed more, she had to step up and ask, and here is the best part…  YOU DON’T HAVE TO HAVE THE ANSWER!  You just need to be clear about asking.

She had no idea about the outcome; frankly, I think she may not have known there could be one of high value, BUT she asked.  Also, she took me up on all of it.  See many of you ask, then it is given, and you say – oh, no, that’s not it.  I want something else, or this must not be the answer.  When you ask and opportunity appears, you must grab it!  You must take that opportunity and go!  Be open.

* Are you asking the Universe for help, support, and signs?

* Are you asking your coach for what you need?

* Are you asking your spouse for support?

* Are you asking your clients to live up to their potential?

What are you not asking for?  Ask and it is given.
