Help More People and Make More Money with Authentic Marketing

Published by Suzanne Evans   |   April 24, 2009   |   No Comments

I want to share a little bit with you about myself and my journey to helpingpreneurship.

I had worked in Broadway theater for many years, about seven years, when I was looking at something different to do with my life. I had looked at becoming a therapist, and many different avenues. To make a long story short, I came to coaching and I fell in love. I knew that this was my passion place. I knew this was what I wanted to do with my life and I began coaching.

I came to a decision fairly early on, although I didn’t know exactly what it looked like yet, that I had to bring me into the business. I had to be authentic. I could not go on with this marketing hardcore as usual, using all of the tactics and tools and techniques that everyone was telling me to use. They didn’t feel natural to me. They didn’t feel authentic. So I began to just slowly put myself back in the business.

I spent months trying to create a coaching business, manufacture a theme and an idea of what I had to offer, but the minute I began to share with people my own experiences, things I had overcome in my life, my coaching style, I just became me and I became authentic.

Everything shifted.
The clients started coming. I filled my practice at that time with about 40 clients in about nine to 10 months. In about 15 months went to a six figure business.

It all went back to me inserting myself into the business and being really authentic. Once that happened, I began to have other people coming to me saying, “How did you do this? I’m a health counselor. I’m an acupuncturist. I’m a coach. I’m a therapist. I’m a dog walker. How did you build this business so rapidly, so successfully, but make it really authentic and you’re having such a good time?”

I knew I had to put that into a system that I could share with other people and that they could use as a template to put their own personal experiences into the paint by numbers, and at the end of the 24 lessons have an authentic, thriving business that helps more people, makes more money, and they get to enjoy more freedom.

That’s how the Help More People System came about. It takes you through step by step, it does some hand holding, and it gives you everything that I wasn’t able to find in all those marketing materials, teleclasses, lessons, and seminars.

I took some of the really great marketing ideas and strategies that are used in those, but I put them into this system in a way where they feel absolutely natural. When you insert your special gift, what you have to offer that helps other people, it just becomes a natural progression of growth and your business flourishes.

Solopreneurs: Introducing a Different Way to Identify Who You Serve in the Marketplace

Published by Suzanne Evans   |   April 22, 2009   |   3 Comments

We’ve all heard how important it is to identify our “niche” or even “sub-niche” business. Entrepreneurs often struggle with pinpointing exactly who to serve.

You definitely have to get specific about your market, but I don’t like to call it a “niche” because we’ve heard that word too much. I will use “niche” sometimes as a frame of reference because everyone’s familiar with that word, but the place I work from is “who needs you most”, and discovering the group of people that you can serve to the greatest good. That’s much more comfortable for a few reasons.

Finding a niche often becomes a task: to find a group of people, go after them, grab them and tackle them and sell to them.  It becomes inauthentic.

If we frame it as finding out who needs us most, it becomes a very different situation. It’s critical to understand who your ideal prospect is. For instance, if you’re both a therapist and an ADD coach, you’ve got to recognize they are two different businesses. They truly are. When you have two different skills, two different genres that you’re working in, they really are two different businesses.

Here’s a little gem: a confused mind always says no. When you approach people about who you are, what you do and how you can serve them, it would be very confusing if you said, “I do coaching, therapy, work with ADD, and work with moms.”

Since we know a confused mind always says no, we have to get very clear about how we can serve and who we serve. Once you know who your ideal client is, define your message in terms of the concrete benefits you can offer them.

Using the example of the market of moms with ADD, if a mother with ADD came to you and said, “I heard you do this.  How can you help me?” How would you respond to that? If you say, “I help moms with ADD to have more rewarding, stable, and satisfying lives,” that’s too unclear. It is not addressing a transactional problem.

A transactional problem is something that someone recognizes that can have an absolute solution to it. You want to make sure that in the business you are in that you solve transactional problems.

When you change your message to say that you can help moms find more time for themselves in their week, you can help moms organize themselves and their children so that there is less chaos in the house, and that you could coach or support a mom in being less stressed when she’s spending time with her family, that speaks specifically to the problems your prospect is having.

Whether you call it a niche or another term, be sure you clarify your message so that within a couple sentences your prospect knows exactly what you offer that will create a positive change in their lives. This one tip alone will bring you more ideal clients and leads.

Solopreneurs – YOU May Have Forgotten!

Published by Suzanne Evans   |   April 21, 2009   |   No Comments

“Success means having the courage, the determination and the will to become the person you believe you were meant to be.” ~ George Sheehan

  • Feeling like the marketing is hard?
  • A little blue cause you lost a client?
  • Can’t seem to get motivated or on track?
  • Not sure you are meant to be in business?

You forgot.

Yes, YOU forgot.

You are not a series of disappointments. You are not marketing and websites and hard work. You are not the answers you get nor the answers you give.

YOU are a gift. A gift to share with others. And if you are standing knee deep in your own worry, fear, self-pity or disappointment, then you are not living your highest purpose. All the swirling “stuff” that is weighing you down is just that — STUFF. It actually has very little to do with you. But, you may be at a point right now where you are allowing it to become YOU.

It breaks my heart when I get emails/calls from people who are bursting with possibility and purpose, yet they can’t make the quantum leap. Their reasons are always the same. Not enough.

Not enough…

  • Money
  • Time
  • Support
  • Training
  • Family

And it never has anything to do with the above. We always…

(Please write this down somewhere)

We always find the time, money and resources to do what we truly want to do.

We always do. This might feel uncomfortable or even make you a bit annoyed. It did for me, for a while, too.

It’s okay. You just forgot. You simply forgot that you are talented, needed, gifted, beautiful, inspiring, smart, abundant, brave.

You forgot that building a business is not a dream, it is your purpose.

You forgot that you are not the no’s or the yeses, but the NOW. You are the divine intention you have to make a difference and making meaning.

It’s okay.

I am happy to remind you. Now, YOU have to own it. Stand up from your computer right now and embrace all the possibility and abundance. When you forget again (and we all do), see me and my team.

We have enough belief for ALL of you! And it keeps flowing ~ the belief is abundant and plentiful and never ending.
